For years the shorthand for a summer afternoon in Edgewater ran east from the Red Line down Bryn Mawr toward the lake. That route still works, but if you have lived here through the last two summers you have felt the center of gravity shift. The block of Broadway between Thorndale and Ardmore now hosts the weekly market, the biggest festival on the North Side calendar, and the two most talked-about openings of the year. Bryn Mawr kept the brunch crowd. Broadway got the crowd.
This is a small change with practical consequences for how you plan a Monday, a Saturday, and the last weekend of August.
The summer rhythm in Edgewater has migrated a few blocks west. Broadway is the spine now, and the Bryn Mawr side has become the counterpoint rather than the main event.
The Broadway spine, block by block
The clearest way to see the shift is to line up what actually happens where, on which day, and at what scale. Nearly everything with a crowd in 2026 clusters within a five-block walk of the Broadway Armory.
